The night sky offers countless possibilities for capturing its beauty, and our family’s journey into astrophotography began with a simple 3-second exposure of the Orion Nebula through an eyepiece using a cell phone. The resulting image revealed vibrant colors that left us in awe, prompting us to delve deeper into this captivating hobby. Instantly, we were filled with curiosity and began contemplating the possibilities: What if we extended the exposure to 20 seconds? What if we utilized a professional-grade camera? What if we explored a larger telescope beyond our beloved Orion Starblast 4.5 (pictured below – featuring Orion the bunny)? It’s incredible how much can be captured using equipment you may already possess.
Below is our own capture of “The Orion Nebula” using an astro-dedicated camera and the stacking technique of combining 45 light frames. This image serves as a demonstration of what can be achieved with longer exposures and a greater accumulation of data.
